Casino chips have been made from a wide range of materials in an almost endless selection of variations since the advent of gambling and the need to keep track of winnings. The most commonly used materials employed at this time in the creation of modern poker chips are plastic, clay, and acrylics. Clay chips, the original of the group, have been manufactured in America since the late 19th century.
Back in the 19th century, poker enthusiasts appear to be using any tiny valuable item imaginable. Early poker enthusiasts occasionally employed rough gold pieces along with chips – normally manufactured of wood and clay. By the 20th century, poker chip designs began to play a bigger prominence, and the smooth edges of older chips were given up to chips with slits to keep them neatly arranged together.
There is little or no debate that poker has grown constantly in appeal since its beginnings in the 1800s. With the explosive growth of net gaming and specialty television shows, public appeal in poker has feed the fire a lot faster than ever before. Most people are first introduced to poker by television showslike "Celebrity Poker" or the Travel Channel’s "World Poker Tour," and many will play their initial hands online. Regardless of online poker’s rise, not much competes with the feeling of shuffling heavy clay poker chips in your hands, throwing chips into the center of a casino table, or creating tall pilesstacks of chips after showing a victorious hand.
