Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender in the world by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the negative comments from other people annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning experience and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Although Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
