Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender in the world by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental comments from others destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.
He began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
