Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative comments from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He began playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and always strives to improve.
Even though Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
