Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve last poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a massive pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best bettors around the world. While participating in net poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Gus generally buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all in. I accept that Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the min takes a majority of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be 1 of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amount. I believe tv can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest players anywhere in the world might just be players you have never heard of. Gus can be seen competing in online poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in big stakes omaha high and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
