Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player on the planet by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse comments from others annihilate his goal of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.
He began competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
