Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover every little thing he could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the adverse feedback from others annihilate his dream of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning was not a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal love for poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Even though Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
