Howard Lederer was born into in a family of five in which he loved betting on different card games at a young age. He found himself getting really competitive in these particular card games while competing against his dad. After graduating from secondary school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a little while and relocated to New York to compete in some serious chess. While playing chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s initial 2 years were rough as he played many hours and do not win a majority of the time. He made some extra cash by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He believed he could better his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He made an attempt to get more rest and focus even more on poker.

The actual advancement in his skills happened when he began playing at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest players would often challenge one another. Howard had access into several of the best minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard would hone his strategic thinking abilities. He applied these strategy ideas to the game of No-Limit holdem.

Howard Lederer also assisted his sibling Annie Duke learn poker. Annie Duke was an excellent student of the game as she constantly asked questions about how to make the proper choice. He told Annie Duke to move out to Vegas and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the strongest women players the poker arena has ever seen. Howard relocated to Sin City in Nineteen Ninety Three and played money games for the next 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
