Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve last game in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest bettors anywhere in the world. While betting on net poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He often participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Gus is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the min buy-in.

Playing for the min takes most of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be 1 of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full dollar value. I think tv can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best poker players in the world might just be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be found competing in online poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in high stakes omaha high and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in money games?
