Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to make it to the closing table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest gamblers around the world. While competing in online poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus often plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen usually buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I know Hansen is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy in.

Playing for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is accepted to be one of the greatest poker players in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I believe tv can alter our view of the real world sometimes. The best poker players in the world may be players you have never heard about. Gus can be seen participating in internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in high stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in money rounds?
