Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the globe by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental feedback from others annihilate his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching period and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
