Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 in which he enjoyed playing various card games at a young age. He discovered himself becoming really aggressive in the above-mentioned card games as he was playing his father. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to place college on hold for a little bit and moved to New York to compete in some serious chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st 2 years were difficult as he played many hours and fail to win a majority of the time. He earned some extra money by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He believed he possibly could improve his game by balancing his life outside of poker. He brought about an effort to get more rest and focus attention more on the game.

The definite advancement in his abilities began when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable gamblers would frequently play against each other. He had access into some of the greatest minds in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would tweak his strategic thinking techniques. Howard used these strategic concepts in the game of NL Texas Holdem.

He also assisted his sister Annie Duke master poker. Annie Duke was an excellent student of the game as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper choice. Howard told Annie Duke to move out to Vegas and play in the WSOP tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the best women players the poker arena today. Howard moved to Las Vegas in 1993 and played cash games for the successive decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard decided to compete in more tournaments.
